The Change Agent – Capital Punishment - Justice for All or Justice For Some??

As I reviewed the California Death Penalty Propositions on the November ballot I had totally ignored my own infamous story with a notorious serial killer; popularized in the press as The Dating Game Killer. My sister was one of his first known victims in 1977, but the trial never occurred until 2010.

Proposition 66 would expedite the execution and appeals process, whereas proposition 62 would eliminate the death penalty in favor of life without the possibility of parole.

Now the uniqueness of this infamous multiple murderer demonstrates how keeping a felon alive on death row enables other victims loved one’s a future opportunity to receive justice. Terminating a life along a timeline would have denied convictions in the famous 2010 Murder trial where 4 LA Victims, three decades later, received justice because the perpetrator lived long enough to have DNA technology evolve for open and shut cases.

Further, 2 NY Homicides were plead to by the notorious serial killer in 2012. He has been behind bars since his original conviction in 1979. That is seven families receiving some measure of justice or closure as result of Capital Punishment not being implemented.

Today, 9/20/2016, I learned from 2 veteran LAPD, and OC Police Officers that the perpetrator is now being charged in an 8th killing from 1977.

Unofficially, this is one more reason why Prop. 62 makes sense. None of the LA, or NY victims, or this victim would have been afforded justice or closure had the death penalty been implemented. The victims in my opinion deserve closure, and killing this guy will not offer any other potential victim families closure. I know some people are definitely prop. 66, but the benevolence is towards victims and not the perpetrator.

Justice for None is what would occur if he had been executed; and justice for some or more is what occurs by keeping him locked away for life. This may not be the Prop 66 justice, but Prop 62 enables the possibility of other victims to get closure and accountability after decades of no answers.
